It’s Business as Usual as Royal Canin South Africa Welcomes New MD

Royal Canin South Africa is delighted to welcome Gregory Watine who takes over from Francois Gergaud as Managing Director Royal Canin South Africa.

Gregory joins Royal Canin in South Africa having been Managing Director of Royal Canin China for the past 2 years. Francois Gergaud has been appointed MD at Royal Canin in Japan.

Gregory has been with Royal Canin for 6 years. After spending 2 years in Australia, as Marketing Manager, he moved to Royal Canin China where he took over the MD position from Francois Gergaud who moved to South Africa. Gregory was at the helm of Royal Canin China for 4 years before coming to South Africa in November 2005.

“It is wonderful to be in South Africa, once again taking over from Francois who has done an excellent job in developing the market in this region.” says Gregory. “Sales of Royal Canin products, under the guidance of Francois, has grown enormously in the local market. This makes my job much easier and I intend to continue with the initiatives implemented by Francois and see that success is achieved in all these projects.”

According to Gregory, Royal Canin’s success world-wide is based on the successful relationships that the group has maintained with the veterinarian. The veterinarian is a strategic partner in developing the breed-specific nutrition market in South Africa.

“The market is growing rapidly in South Africa.” says Gregory. “The veterinary channel has overcome enormous difficulties in attracting the consumer to his practice. We will continue our efforts to ensure the consumer is aware of the critical role the veterinarian plays in not only providing superior veterinary care; but also in providing the correct nutrition for dogs and cats.”

Like Francois Gergaud, Gregory believes strongly in developing excellent relationships with all veterinarians in South Africa and they also share very similar management styles.

“So, it will be business as usual.” concludes Gregory. “I am very excited that Royal Canin South Africa has been so well received and I am looking forward to my tenure in the country and to be a part of such a vibrant and growing local industry.”
