![]() ![]() 2005.06.23 During the latter half of 2004 Royal Canin South Africa decided to improve the formulations of its Vets Choice range and to introduce 2 new diets in its premium Complete Dry Dog Food range early in 2005; Vets Choice Large Breed Adult and Vets Choice Sensitive. A joint effort between Royal Canin South Africa, the pilot plant in France, Royal Canin’s Research and Development team and the local Marketing Department resulted in discussions regarding the optimal size and kibble shape for Vets Choice Large Breed Adult, the appropriate formulation and a very precise specification sheet. In January 2005 compulsory industrial trials were conducted to establish the correct and accurate specifications for extrusion, drying and coating. Additional specific analyses were conducted as a matter of course and strict follow-ups applied. Royal Canin South Africa followed specific and strict protocols for new product development, as determined by Royal Canin France, during all the Vets Choice trials. Part of this protocol included a digestibility trial conducted in South Africa in partnership with Dr Guido Schroeder of Xantah Kennels and Cattery. The results proved to be astonishing; an 89% protein digestibility in Vets Choice Large Breed Adult. Specifically formulated for larger breeds, Vets Choice Large Breed Adult will assist breeders and owners in providing improved lifestyles through improved nutritional quality.
